Khayyam: A Geometric Inspired Side Table

A Modern Twist on Ancient Iranian Architecture

One of the most significant visual elements in Iranian art and architecture is geometric patterns. Khayyam's design is an effort to create a modern product from an ancient geometry, resulting in a unique and visually striking piece.

Designed by Ali Sharifi Omid, Khayyam is not just a functional table, but also a work of art that can be considered a statue in your office or home. Its intricate geometric design and sleek stainless steel construction make it a standout piece in any space.

The construction of Khayyam utilizes stainless steel sheet due to its delicate nature. To ensure excellent quality, the design incorporates hidden welding places to minimize their visibility on the table's surfaces. Each piece is designed with guidelines that allow for easy assembly, resembling a puzzle. CNC laser cutting and machining techniques are employed to achieve precision and accuracy in the construction process.

With a diameter of 550mm and a height of 510mm, Khayyam weighs 12kg. The designer's goal was to achieve high quality without the need for costly molding processes. The use of CNC technology has minimized human error and ensured the precise execution of intricate details.

Khayyam is not just a side table; it is a conversation starter. Its geometric design, inspired by traditional Iranian motifs, creates a bridge between the past and the present. The bright metal finish reflects the light and colors of its surroundings, allowing it to interact with the environment. The transparent smoked glass top exposes the overall form of the table, showcasing its unique design to the audience.

Ali Sharifi Omid embarked on this project in August 2019 in Tehran, conducting extensive research on Iranian-Islamic geometric designs and patterns. The project was completed in June 2020, resulting in a collection of furniture pieces that blend ancient motifs with modern aesthetics.

Khayyam is part of the Haf collection, which focuses on constructing furniture using metal materials while drawing inspiration from Iranian architectural motifs and naturalistic elements. This collection aims to showcase Iran's rich cultural heritage in a modern lifestyle context.

The main challenge of this project was to create new and innovative forms from traditional patterns and motifs. The goal was to evoke a sense of authenticity and nostalgia while seamlessly integrating the design with modern furniture.

Khayyam has been recognized for its exceptional design and craftsmanship. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This award acknowledges Khayyam's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
